This blog was really well-written. The question remains why people plagiarize. Is it laziness or lack of creativity or too much pressure to churn out content? Oh, and you can add one more name to your list of plagiarists: Rick Bragg, a Pulitzer-prize winning New York Times reporter. It's a shame because his book, "All Over But the Shoutin'" was really great.

Eric,

Good insight. I was surprised not just by the MoDo transgression, but by the short cycle on the event as a story itself. It may reflect your thesis: it's a dirty little secret some journalists would rather protect than shine a light on--even if it means letting a star columnist slide by after being caught red-handed (and with a flimsy excuse).

Great column, Eric. The problem begins when journalists become more concerned with building their personal brand than with protecting the integrity and authenticity of their product.
